The History Of Woodside Ceramics
I started Ceramics back in 1987 as a hobby when my husband was in the RAF, there was a ceramics club at the camp in North Devon. We then moved to Hampshire and there was no club on that camp, so I found a civilian club, run by a very nice lady, who is now a lifelong very special friend. This club was in a different league and I became so interested in it that I took a teaching qualification, bought lots of molds and a kiln! My sister-in-law used to hold an ‘open house’ day for me to sell the products I was making, and these proved very successful and helped to fund my hobby.
We then moved to Scotland where I continued to do my own ceramics and I became a teacher at the Ceramics Club on that camp. A few years later we moved to Germany and I was still able to teach there. Working full time as well though did mean that I didn’t have time to use my own molds etc, so I sold all my kit to a friend back in 1999.
Each year around Christmas time I have missed doing the Ceramics, as I especially like painting Christmas decorations etc. I mentioned this to my husband this year and the next thing I knew we had bought some molds from Peterlee, and then a kiln with more molds from Scotland. We ordered a workshop to be built and installed in the garden and I work away very happily in there singing along to music, loving every minute of it.
